Individual Therapy

Each client's experience of individual therapy is unique, based on his or her age, interests, therapy goals, and personality. Some tools I often employ are cognitive behavioral interventions (challenging negative thought patterns to produce change), expressive arts interventions (such as sand tray, art, or writing) and play therapy. Parents of child and adolescent clients are asked to be involved in the therapy process.

FAmily Therapy

Our primary family relationships shape our view of ourselves and how we see the world. Healing within the family system can often bring deep emotional healing for the individual. It is especially important for children and adolescents to feel "heard" by their parents. Goals of family therapy include increasing attunement between parents and children, improving communication, and revising previously negative patterns of interacting.

School Consultation

I believe the old saying, "It takes a village to raise a child." Communication with a child's teacher or school counselor during the therapy process can provide greater  support in the environment in which the child's social, emotional, or behavioral issues are occurring. While confidentiality is strictly observed, services may include phone consultations, attendance of IEP meetings, or review of school grades and behavior reports.
